A4 TOUGH box — frequently asked questions
What are the dimensions of the WestonBoxes A4 TOUGH box and what does it hold?
The A4 TOUGH box measures 312 x 225 x 57mm externally and 304 x 216 x 55mm internally — identical dimensions to the standard WestonBoxes A4 box. It holds a full ream of 500 sheets of 80gsm A4 paper. The internal dimensions are sized to hold A4 paper flat without movement, with enough clearance to prevent corner-curl.
What is the difference between the TOUGH box and the standard A4 box?
The dimensions and design are identical — the difference is the material. The TOUGH box is made from a high-impact grade of polypropylene that offers significantly improved resistance to knocks, drops, and heavy handling compared to the standard grade. The TOUGH box is opaque white; the standard box is available in clear transparent and a range of colours. Choose the TOUGH box for demanding environments; choose the standard box where colour options or transparency matter.
Is the WestonBoxes A4 TOUGH box acid-free?
Yes. The A4 TOUGH box is made from acid-free polypropylene, which means it will not react with or damage paper, artwork, or printed media stored inside it. Safe for long-term archival storage of documents, prints, and handmade work.
What material is the WestonBoxes A4 TOUGH box made from?
The A4 TOUGH box is made from high-impact PP5 polypropylene — a chemically inert, recyclable plastic that is acid-free, moisture-resistant, and significantly more robust than standard polypropylene. Opaque white finish. Wipes clean easily.
Where is the WestonBoxes A4 TOUGH box made?
The A4 TOUGH box is designed, manufactured, and quality-checked at our factory in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey. S.B.Weston Ltd has been manufacturing precision injection moulded products in south west London since 1948 — originally from a factory in Teddington, then on Platts Eyot, a small island in the Thames, before moving to our own factory premises in Sunbury-on-Thames in 2002. When you buy a WestonBoxes product, it is genuinely made in Britain — not just branded here.
