For our WestonBoxes.com customers who may not be aware, S.B.Weston Ltd. are a plastic injection moulding company. We have our own product range – WestonBoxes, but also undertake ‘trade’ moulding jobs for numerous clients.

People come to us with an idea for a plastic product, and we take the idea, evolve the design so that all the features required to successfully injection mould are included, we then create a mould tool and manufacture from that mould at our plant in Sunbury-on-Thames.

In 2009 we did exactly this for Queen guitarist Brian May with his OWL stereoscope. We worked with Brian to evolve his design into a fully functioning, flat-packing, injection mouldable stereoscopic viewer. The product was a great success, as was the book in which the stereo viewer was included – ‘A Village Lost & Found‘ – which is available from the London Stereoscopic Society website.

We are delighted to announce that Brian has recently returned to S.B.Weston looking to work on a new plastic injection moulding project. A presentation box to accompany the OWL viewer and a new range of stereo cards which will soon be available, from the London stereoscopic company website. I can’t reveal much more than that about what this product is at this stage, but as the details of this new venture become more public, you will be the first to read up on our progress with Brian right here.

If you are not familiar with the technique of stereoscopic photography, then I recommend you invest in the book ‘A Village Lost & Found’ It has great examples of the very effective 3D stereocards as available in the 1850’s but also clearly and easily explains the process so that you can create your own stereoscopic photos!

If you have an idea for a product that requires plastic injection moulding, or have a product you need manufactured then get in contact with us at sales@sbweston.com

For more information take a look at our Plastic Injection Moudling Services here.

Cheers!

You may have already read the piece that Chris has written about the Crafty Tool Box,

well I just wanted to add to that with a more practical demonstration of how useful this box is for us crafters! One of the main reasons this works so well is that the dividers are actually moulded into the base which effectively makes it a one piece tray once you remove the lid. I have found that as an alternative use, having this in the bottom of your desk draw is very handy for keeping the small stationery bits and bobs in order.Because the dividers are moulded in, they are much more sturdy than some of the other craft tool boxes out there where you can reposition slot in dividers. The other problem with slot in dividers is that small items can get under the dividers and get mixed up. This can’t happen with the Crafty Tool Box which makes it great for storing small items like beads, gems and brads.I’ve posted a pic of one of my Crafty Tool Boxes loaded up with some of my supplies. You’ll see that the long partition is perfect for the larger items like scissors or paint brushes, whilst the smaller ones are perfect for anything from sequins to mica powders and paints. This box is more sturdy and rigid than our regular A4 box, with a top which come down almost all the way over the base.As an added bonus these boxes do of course fit in the Multi Box Storage Unit when its configured for the A4 Boxes enabling you to easily store multiple Crafty Tool Boxes. So there we go! They’re available now from our online store, and of course if you are a trade customer, drop us an email and we’ll be happy to send you details of all of our trade price quantity breaks. Also if you are a crafter like me then post a pic up here of what you are using the box for. I would be very interested to see what ideas other people have for filling this box!.Many thanks.Sandra.

The Crafty Tool Box, which is essentially a sturdy version of our A4 Storage Box but with the added features of an almost full depth lid and dividers permanently moulded into the base, has been introduced because of demand for a compartmentalised box from our customers in the craft trade. The box will be ideal for storage of your art and craft supplies with divided sections specifically arranged for paint brushes, small paint pots, embellishments of all kinds and of course beads!Ideal for storage or display purposes this box will also fit in the Multi-Box Storage Unit for easy stowing once you have filled it with all of your craft supplies. This box is tough, rigid and transparent making it ideal for storing your small parts and beads – you don’t have to take the lid off to see what you have stored in each section and the top stays on so you don’t have to worry about spilling the contents. You can order the Crafty Tool Box online right now, right here:crafty-tool-boxTrade customers drop us an email for bulk order prices. Thanks!

If you are the kind of customer for whom the price of your boxes is more important than colour then we have something new which may be of interest to you – Random coloured plastic boxes!

S.B.Weston manufacture standard clear boxes 90% of the time – we have facilities in house to recycle any that are not fully formed or are damaged during manufacture, meaning we do not waste any clear Polypropylene during the manufacturing process.

When we manufacture coloured plastic boxes there are a certain amount of boxes produced as the colour seeps through which are not solid colours – ie they are not consistently the same colour, or they are a mix of two colours or a transition from one colour to another. The results can be quite interesting – some people prefer them but, they are not consistent, they are Randoms!

We are now offering Random coloured plastic boxes at a discounted rate to you!

We can’t say what colour they will be, they may be a mix of many colours, they may have swirly patterns in them or they may be solid colours! All we can promise is that they are fully formed mouldings which serve their purpose as well as a standard clear or colour box.

We will publish details of what random coloured plastic boxes are in stock on our website at dev.westonboxes.com/random-boxes along with the discounted rates.
Remember – the reason these boxes are cheaper is because the colours are completely random! The boxes themselves are exactly the same as the standard boxes.

Another month has passed and I am back again with more news on our range of craft boxes.

As you may or may not know, Weston Boxes now have a new new craft box, the “Crafty Tool Box”. We’ve been working really hard over the last month on completing the mould so that we can make our fabulous new box available for you by April. Hopefully this should be in production within the next 2-3 weeks. I can’t wait to get my hands on a couple; or more if I speak nicely to the boss.

I have already started going through my bits and pieces at home with the anticipated arrival of these boxes. I also have a “Multi-box storage unit” set aside to put them into. This way I will know exactly where to find all those small items which up until now seem to get lost amongst everything else. Is it me or do you find that nothing ever seems to get put back where you originally intended.

The other day I was making a card for my daughter-in-law which required some small gemstones, which I knew I had; but for the life of me I just could not think where I had put them. I had only bought them a couple of weeks previously so I should have remembered. I know don’t tell me “its age creeping up on me”. Anyway after much searching I found them in a box with my Glue gel which I had used at the same time I had the gems. Now I will be able to dedicate a “Crafty Tool Box” to my gemstones and small embellishments; put a label on it and never have to hunt for them again. Or that’s my plan and I hope to stick to it.

I have recently bought a bowmaker so I am considering making up a batch of small bows in various colours and store them in one of the craft boxes and that way I don’t need to search around for the ribbon and bowmaker each time. Another thing you could use them for is Flowersoft. I think the sections will be great for this. It will allow the Flowersoft room to expand and loosen up. The other longer sections great for the wires, glue and tools you need. Again everything you need for a particular job all together. Great!

As for you jewellery makers out there this box is a “must have” for all those precious beads and findings, tools etc. You won’t know how you managed before without this great versatile addition to your craftroom.

Be back soon with more craft news and gossip.

Our Colour Boxes Packs are the most cost effective way to buy mixed colour WestonBoxes.

All boxes sizes are available in Colour Packs. In a Colour Pack you get 5 boxes, one of each colour – Red, Blue, Purple, Pink and Green. Business Card Wallets are the only exception where it’s a 10 pack rather than a 5 pack and so you get 2 of each colour.

Colour boxes are translucent not opaque so you can see what you’ve put in them when they’re closed whilst still benefiting from the simplicity of organised colour coded stuff!
Each month we give away an A4 Colour Pack to one of our mailing list subscribers, but if you don’t feel lucky you can get one now from our website dev.westonboxes.com
